One real life sports element that has never transferred to the fantasy world (at least to my knowledge) is All Star Games. Given how bad the all-star games are in some sports, namely the Pro Bowl in football, one might say this is a good thing. Despite this, I was just kicking around an idea that might be fun to try out.
What if, on week 11 or 12 of the season, when all the players have had their bye weeks, we had a seperate little side matchup in addition to the regular games for the week. The extra matchup would be between the East and West divisons, featuring the best players in leauge. Basically we would go to the leauge leaders pages and take the best QB, two RBs, three WRs, TE, K, and DEF from each division and match them up with those of the other division. Of course, they would still be allowed to play in their regular matchup as well (for example, Drew Brees score for the week would count for both the Party Animals and the East Division All Stars).
The team that wins the ASG would get a small reward. For example, each owner in the winning division would get $5 free agency money, or each winning player would bring $2 back to their owner, or something.
Just trying to think outside the box a little bit....

I think that sounds like a great idea! Count me as a yes!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in for the idea for sure. I'm wondering what we would want to do though, because some owners might not want others in their division getting more free agency money, so maybe the players bringing their owners money, or even have something that won't have an affect on the season, like the losing division is responsible for buying the draft board next season, or something like that? Let's get some thoughts on the topic and we'll definitely institute our own all-star game for sure.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of FA money earned by players for their owners...what about something like $1 for every two ASG fantasy points earned?
ReplyDeleteTony and I are sitting here trying to brainstorm, and we're thinking the result shouldn't have any bearing on the season. It was a bad idea for the MLB all-star game and I think it would be for this too. I want to do the ASG, but we need to come up with an award that is sweet, yet non-season affecting. Just think if Brees goes off for 40 points and Vick gets $20 extra for free agency.
ReplyDelete$5 per owner makes the most sense to me if we do this and would be my first choice. Rewards shouldnt differ for a team effort, and giving everyone the same amount pretty much negates the benefit anyone in your divison would have over you. the reward is only a small advantage of the losing owners in the other divison.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Brees getting me money. It's football, take your chances. I have been told that in Fantasy Football you only care about your team, screw everyone else. So man up and go for the free agency money for your players. If you get it all, so be it. If you get none, that's the way it goes. You guys are worse than any women i know when it comes to whining! Whatever you guys decide, I'll go with. I took my chances joining and I will take my chances and trust whatever you do. Bad Luck to all of you. Hope your top players get the swine flu!!! HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteI would think it would be manning up to go the rest of the season with just the FA money you have, not with a substansial bonus.
ReplyDeleteCraig's proposal based on points is cool, but I think:
1) only the winning teams players would be rewarded right?
2) 2 points is too few. $1 for every 10 or even 5 points maybe. These are the all star players, and are likely to put a ton of points on the board. Owners getting $30 because they had three guys combine for 60 would really throw the free agency out of whack. Again, this should be fairly insignificant like any all star game. mainly just for bragging rights. Judging by Vicks post, that wont be a problem :)
haha...yeah, 2 points is way too low...I forgot what it was like to have players who score a lot of points.
ReplyDeleteI'm in for $1 per 5.
ReplyDeletefor just the winning team right?
ReplyDeleteThatll probably be $25 to $30 spilt between 5 owners somehow.
Should be fun stuff.
